Recently, a social media immigration trend occurs. If you have been on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms, you must have heard of this latest chatty application. Founded by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, Clubhouse is picking up 2 millions installs. Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Elon Musk are all on Clubhouse. But what’s the actual charisma of Clubhouse? Here’re the 3 main features you need to know about it.
1.Drop-in audio chat
Unlike other social media platforms, Clubhouse is a drop-in audio chat social media app where people discuss any topics or whatever they want in “rooms”. It’s your own choice to be a speaker or a listener, which is similar to a conversational Podcast. What makes it special is, you only speak or ask questions (called “raise hand”) when the host allows you to do so. You could choose to share, or just be an audience. The great thing about Clubhouse is that you could participate in real conversations with industry experts or professionals, like music, startups, marketing, and so on. You could schedule your own room as well, just like what Elon Musk did with Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev.
2.Invite-only
For now, Clubhouse is an invite-only app, which means you have to get an invitation code from an existing user to get in (similar to the system of the actual clubhouses), and each new member is allocated with two invites at start. Since Clubhouse limits the invitation code, some people even start a business in selling Clubhouse invites at eBay. Currently the app only works on iOS contact list, which in turns, a good way of pulling friends and colleagues in.
3.Expand social circle
Another cool function is that you can see what room your friends are currently in. For Clubhouse beginners, it would be a great way to come across more people or topics when you have no ideas what to look for. Apart from that, there’s a latest trend of starting a ‘soundless room’, in which the host and participants would turn off their audio chat. These people are mainly KOL, celebrities or industry experts who intend to look for more exposure and followers in Clubhouse. Meanwhile, as ‘soundless room’ may violate the user policy and intention of Clubhouse, it is likely to be banned in the future.
